FACILITIES OF CRPP SUPERCONDUCTIVITY

A substantial fraction of the R&D activities of CRPP-SC deals with the development and operation of complex experimental facilities.

Large size facility

  • SULTAN, the European high field test facility for evaluating prototype conductor samples for the ITER project.

Medium and small size facilities

  • JORDI (JOint Resistance DIstribution), the facility developed and built by CRPP-SC for measurements of resistance distribution on termination and joints of large superconducting cable (2002).
  • Power cable test facility, developed by CRPP-SC for testing High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) cables for power applications ( Suleika cable ). The characteristics are: 8 kA DC power supply, 6 kA current leads and forced flow of neon down to 27 K ( Suleika refrigerator).
  • High field laboratory magnets (two commercial systems, i.e. 12T Oxford and 13T Cryogenics Consultants), used for the characterization of superconducting strands, i.e. assessment of the critical current (as a function of magnetic field, temperature and strain) and the critical temperature, as well as the residual resistivity ratio of stabilizer materials.
